Architecture and licence are separate. A Studio activation code does not make the Windows x86 installer suitable for ARM, and a dongle does not make an unsupported Mac compatible. Check the current Resolve system requirements before downloading a large package for an old or unusual system.

The Download Does Not Create a Studio Licence
For the installer downloaded from Blackmagic, the three licence routes are:
- Software activation code: choose Use License Key and enter your Studio key when prompted. Registration on the download page is not this activation step.
- USB licence dongle: connect the legitimate Studio dongle before launch and keep it connected while using Studio.
- Blackmagic Cloud rental: choose Use Blackmagic Cloud ID and sign in to the profile with an assigned Studio licence. Merely having a Cloud account is not enough.

A Cloud rental activates one computer at a time. To move it, use License Details in the Cloud License Manager to deactivate the old computer, then sign in on the new one. - Back up the project library using the controls for its local, network or Cloud library type.
- Export active or irreplaceable projects separately as .drp snapshots. Preserve the source media and required dependencies too; a plain project export is not a footage backup.
- Record the current Resolve edition and complete build number.
