Quick answer: download DaVinci Resolve Studio from Blackmagic Design's official Resolve and Fusion support page. In Latest Downloads, choose the card titled DaVinci Resolve Studio, not the separate Free card, then select Mac OS, Linux, Windows x86 or Windows ARM as offered.
The installer is available to download, but Studio is not a free entitlement. The current Studio 21.0.4 card requires a DaVinci Resolve Studio licence dongle, Blackmagic Cloud licence or software activation code. If you do not already have one of those paths, install DaVinci Resolve Free or buy Studio through an official channel.
Version checked: DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.0.4 on September 2, 2026. Blackmagic published this update on August 5, 2026. The download, platform buttons, price and requirements can change, so the live Blackmagic card should override an old tutorial.
Download the Correct Studio Package
On the support page, Free and Studio appear as separate software updates. The Free card says DaVinci Resolve. The paid card includes the word Studio in both the heading and downloaded package name.
If you are still deciding between editions or operating systems, use the Resolve download hub first. This page is for the point where Studio is already the intended edition.

- Open the official Blackmagic Resolve and Fusion support family page.
- Wait for the Latest Downloads column to load.
- Find DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.0.4 Update or the newer current Studio card if Blackmagic has released one.
- Read the release note and confirm that the heading includes Studio.
- Select the platform that matches the computer.
- Complete the requested download details or use the download-only route if the current dialog offers it.
- Save the official package and let it finish before opening or extracting it.
This site does not host the installer. Avoid torrents, “pre-activated” copies, key generators and repacks. A modified Studio package can compromise the workstation and does not create a legitimate licence.
Choose Mac, Linux, Windows x86 or Windows ARM
| Platform button | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| Mac OS | A Mac that meets the current Studio release requirements. Resolve 21.0.4 currently names macOS 15 or later and Apple silicon. |
| Windows x86 | A normal Intel or AMD 64-bit Windows PC. Blackmagic uses x86 as the family label for this current 64-bit package. |
| Windows ARM | A supported Windows-on-ARM computer. The current 21.0.4 baseline names Windows 11 for ARM and Snapdragon X Elite series. |
| Linux | A Linux workstation that matches Blackmagic's current distribution, memory and GPU requirements. |
Architecture and licence are separate. A Studio activation code does not make the Windows x86 installer suitable for ARM, and a dongle does not make an unsupported Mac compatible. Check the current Resolve system requirements before downloading a large package for an old or unusual system.
For a normal Intel or AMD PC, the Windows installation guide covers the platform steps. Apple users can follow the Mac download guide. If Windows reports an ARM-based processor, check the Windows x86 versus ARM guide before choosing a package.
The Download Does Not Create a Studio Licence
Blackmagic currently names three Studio licence paths:
- Software activation code: enter the key through the Studio activation interface.
- USB licence dongle: connect the legitimate Studio dongle before launching the application.
- Blackmagic Cloud licence: choose the Cloud ID route and sign in to the account profile that holds the licence.

The screenshot comes from Blackmagic's current guide to logging in to DaVinci Resolve Studio. It says to select Use Blackmagic Cloud ID, continue, sign in and select the profile that holds the licence. If you own an activation key instead, keep Use License Key selected.

Keep activation codes private: no public screenshots, messages to strangers or unofficial activators. A licence bought through a separate distribution channel such as the Mac App Store follows that channel's current installation and licensing instructions. App Store purchases, direct activation keys, dongles and Cloud licences should not be treated as interchangeable.
Is DaVinci Resolve Studio Free or a Trial?
DaVinci Resolve Free is a real separate edition. DaVinci Resolve Studio is the paid edition. On September 2, 2026, Blackmagic's US Studio page listed Studio 21 at $295; regional price, tax, reseller bundle and currency can differ. Use the current Resolve price and licence guide before buying.
We found no time-limited Studio trial on the official product and support pages checked for this guide. They presented DaVinci Resolve Free and paid Studio as two choices. Use Free to learn Resolve or test basic hardware compatibility without a Studio entitlement; downloading Studio will still lead to its activation screen.
Use our Free versus Studio comparison when the unresolved question is features. Buy Studio for a specific capability or workflow, not because an unofficial page calls it “full version.”
Back Up Before Moving From Free or Updating Studio
Free and Studio use the same Resolve project ecosystem, but changing the application version can still change a project. Protect the rollback path before installing:

- Create a full project-library backup.
- Export active or irreplaceable projects separately.
- Record the current Resolve edition and complete build number.
- Record critical OpenFX, VST, GPU driver, panel and media dependencies.
- Keep the backup away from the cache and working-media drive.
- Close Resolve before running the Studio installer.
The Studio 21.0.4 readme gives a precise compatibility warning. Blackmagic made an effort to keep 21.0.4 project libraries compatible with 20.3.2, but projects created or opened in 21.0.4 are no longer accessible in 20.3.2. Reinstalling an old Studio application is therefore not a complete downgrade plan.
Use the safe Resolve update workflow before moving a production library to a newer Studio build.
Install Studio on the Computer
After the official package has finished downloading:
- Confirm that the filename and package are Studio, not Free.
- Extract the archive if the platform download is compressed.
- Run the included installer and read each component choice.
- If the platform installer asks to replace or remove the Free application, continue only after the project backups are complete.
- Keep Blackmagic RAW components, Proxy Generator, control-panel software and Desktop Video choices aligned with the hardware actually used.
- Restart only if the installer or operating system asks.
- Launch DaVinci Resolve Studio and choose the correct licence path.
A normal installation should not keep Free and Studio side by side in the same application location unless Blackmagic explicitly documents that configuration for the exact platform. Otherwise plugin paths, file associations and troubleshooting become harder to reason about.
Prove the First Studio Launch
A successful activation is not the end of installation. Open a duplicate project and verify the workflow you bought Studio for:
- confirm that the title or About screen identifies Studio;
- check the expected project library and storage locations;
- import a clip from the real camera, phone or screen recorder;
- test the Studio-only effect, codec or output that justified the licence;
- check audio, OpenFX, VST, LUTs, fonts and external panels;
- export a short representative section and play it outside Resolve.
A lightweight H.264 sample cannot validate a job built around RAW, 10-bit HEVC, noise reduction, multicam, Fusion or immersive audio. The acceptance test should resemble the production timeline.
Update an Existing Studio Installation
Use the newest current Studio card only when the project and dependencies are ready for that version. An old activation key or dongle is not a reason to download an unknown mirror. The official archive keeps previous Studio packages alongside the current one, and the old versions and rollback guide explains how to choose one without sacrificing the working project.
Before updating, note the working build, back up projects and check plugin, operating-system and GPU-driver compatibility. After updating, open a duplicate project first. If a regression appears, preserve the newer environment and restore a tested pre-update backup with the matching official old version rather than trying to force a newer project backward.
If Studio Will Not Activate or Projects Are Missing
| Symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| Resolve asks for a key unexpectedly | Confirm that you installed Studio rather than Free and identify whether your entitlement is a key, dongle or Cloud licence. |
| Activation key is rejected | Check exact characters, internet access and purchase source. Unofficial activation tools are not a recovery path. |
| Dongle is not detected | Connect the legitimate dongle before launch, test a direct USB port and confirm that the Studio build is installed. |
| Cloud ID has no licence | Follow Blackmagic's Cloud guide and select the account profile that actually holds the Studio licence. |
| Resolve launches but says Free | Check the downloaded package and application name. The Free and Studio installers are separate. |
| Project Manager looks empty | Leave the old path untouched. Identify the original local, network or Cloud library and reconnect it through the documented workflow. |
If licensing remains blocked, contact Blackmagic or the authorised seller with the purchase channel, order evidence, exact Studio version, platform and complete error text. Never include the full activation code in a public forum post.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the official DaVinci Resolve Studio download?
Use Blackmagic Design's Resolve and Fusion support page. In Latest Downloads, choose the DaVinci Resolve Studio card, verify the current version and select the Mac, Linux, Windows x86 or Windows ARM button shown for that release.
Can I download DaVinci Resolve Studio for free?
You can obtain the installer from Blackmagic, but the download does not create a Studio entitlement. Studio requires a supported licence dongle, Blackmagic Cloud licence or software activation code. DaVinci Resolve Free is the separate no-cost edition.
Does DaVinci Resolve Studio have a free trial?
The official product and support pages observed on September 2, 2026 did not show a time-limited Studio trial. They presented Resolve Free and paid Studio as separate choices. Use Free unless you already own or purchase a Studio entitlement.
Do I need an activation key for DaVinci Resolve Studio?
Not always. Blackmagic currently supports a Studio software activation code, a licence dongle or a Blackmagic Cloud licence. Match the activation screen to the channel that holds your legitimate entitlement.
Can I install Studio after using DaVinci Resolve Free?
Yes, but back up the full project library and export critical projects first. Download the separate Studio installer, close Resolve, follow the platform installer and confirm the expected library and projects before doing production work.
Which Studio download should an Intel or AMD Windows PC use?
Choose Windows x86. Blackmagic uses that label for the current 64-bit Intel and AMD package. Choose Windows ARM only for a supported Windows-on-ARM computer that meets the current processor and operating-system requirements.
Can I download an older DaVinci Resolve Studio version?
Yes. The official Blackmagic support archive includes previous Studio releases. Match the exact edition, platform and project backup, and remember that a project opened in a newer Resolve version may not open in the older build.
